Melrose Mel Chin
Nov. 11th, 2004 09:30 pmI was selling books on behalf of the Bull's Head Bookshop at artist Mel Chin's campus talk today. The guy is really really cool. His talk gave me a bit more respect for modern art- his layers of meaning and craftsmanship are really subtle so having him explain his pieces was excellent.
The coolest thing he mentioned, though, was the GALA project he led (well, he was very involved and came up with the idea). He basically took a bunch of artists in LA, had them produce art and then convinced the television show Melrose Place to include the art on their show. So cool. Like putting Easter Eggs in a TV show.
Here is a link which describes the project and the art (the link I picked is of my favorite one, the RU-486 quilt).
