Went to see the Watchmen

And the Watchmen was a movie I can say I didn't hate. I'll probably forget all about it at some point rather soon, but I didn't hate it.
But honestly- it was a little to slick. It didn't seem to have kind of, hm, a way of looking at events that happened and making a judgment on them. There were judgments on people, in some cases, but not the larger events and their implications- or of society, or govt. (though they tried, I sensed a bit of homage to Dr. Strangelove in the scenes with Nixon ordering the bombs dropped).
Grr... having trouble articulating the quality/action I mean... bah. I can sense it in the Dark Knight, and V for Vendetta, but not in this film. And that's too bad, but they had a lot to do, so I can't really fault them for wanting to focus on the characters and making it a strictly individual people focused story. And the acting and casting was all great (especially Rorschach) so that worked.
It was good, I just don't feel like I'm going to be thinking about it very much in the future. And that keeps it from being a great film, as opposed to just good.
Oh, and as a matter of style, I really liked that the naked people had their freckles and moles left untouched. They could have air brushed that stuff out, and they didn't. And Dr. Manhattan didn't have a fig leaf. So kudos to the Watchmen film makers for keeping it real.
A little, erg, did they have to keep that, was the cat creature, Bubastis. They should have left that one out, given it was without backstory. It just served to make the end/villain that much more campy.
