Well, I gave a good lecture today. People were asking questions, smiling and interested looking. At 9 AM, this is no mean feat.

It was funny though, evolution didn't shock them, no creationists shouting offense. Nope, no comments about social darwinism either. No objections to any of the ideas presented. But...

When I mentioned that Darwin didn't "bag as many finches as he could have, because he was a bit burnt out by the time he hit the Galapagos" there was an outcry. "Wait, Darwin _killed_ the finches!!! He killed them!?" Shock, horror, how could Darwin be a hunter of small birds! I explained that in the 1800's there were no cameras, no digital cameras especially and if Darwin wanted to document species, yes, he did in fact have to hunt them, stuff them and haul them back to England.

It was pretty funny. I'm relieved there were no strident creationists wanting to pick a fight. That gets old quick.
