Twin Cities food icon Mama D passed at 94. Here is an obit. I don't have many strong memories of the food at the restaurant, really. However, my hubby talks glowingly about the anti-pasto plate from there and I have tried to replicate it diligently with some but not total success. But she was significant to me because she was one of the earliest people I can remember as being (locally anyway) famous for cooking, along with Julia Child.

I hardly ever covet jewelry. I have a few things I inherited from my maternal grandmother Alice B. (Grandma B) that I like a lot (for all her faults and troubles, she had good taste in personal adornment, no doubt). I don't really own or wear much more than those necklaces. But other than that, there are a few things I would like to have, but can't afford. I added to that list today with this esty site.

Octopus jewelery! Fantastic. I want the chalcedony pendant a very great deal. OOooh, a very very great deal. It is a little sad the artist is using real octopuses, because they are so smart, and I don't think they should be killed out of hand.

Sigh. Someday, when I am a fully employed person, I may splurge.

I was so excited to have MN in the tourney I raised my expectations a bit too high. I really wanted to leap out into the street and shout Goooo Gophers! as a kind of psychic come uppance for all the times I've had to endure UNC fans doing their celebratory nonsense. Oh well. Maybe next year. It is a darn good thing for MN basketball that they snared Coach Tubby from Kentucky, I expect that they'll actually make the tournament two years in a row (gasp!).

My bracket looks like crap even at this early stage. Good thing I'm not in a betting pool.
